POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Degree: Bachelor’s DegreeEducation:  Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Technician training program accredited by ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)Educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT).Certification: Certification/registration as determined by the:American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

OR

American Medical Technologist (AMT).Experience:  Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience. U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.Letters of Recommendation: Provide three letters of recommendation from practicing providers, supervisors or program administrators attesting to his/her professional skills, competencies, patient  rapport, etc. Reference letters must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. Letters of reference must have been written within the preceding two yearEnglish Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.HCW Physical Capability: HCWs shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required.

 

DUTIES: 

 

Medical Laboratory Technologist, Lead. The HCW shall provide services within the scope of their competencies, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:  Enter and certify laboratory results into CHCS/AHLTA. NHJ-A-0010 Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL 19Instruct medical laboratory technicians, residents, and others in laboratory policies and procedures.Successfully complete the MTF provided in-services in IV placement, blood and blood administration, and immunization administration prior to assignment of duties.Maintain quality control on tests and procedures; review test findings obtained by personnel. Periodically check validity and accuracy of test results.Communicate with health care providers to assure problems are resolved and their needs addresses. Assure compliance with professional and departmental standards, policies and procedures, and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies through periodic inspections and observation of personnel practices. Take appropriate actions when violations occur.Evaluate performance and initiate, recommend and effect measures to improve services and quality of current methodologies. Assist administration with determination of need for development of new services.Consult with administrative staff to ensure that they are informed of activities, needs, and problems. Consult with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services.Cooperate with the infection control committee and personnel to carry out environmental sampling program.Perform and/or assist staff in performance of difficult or unusual tests or procedures. Act as a resource to laboratory and medical staff. Attend Composite Health care System (CHCS)/Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology (AHLTA) training provided by the Government for a minimum of four (4) hours, and up to a maximum of 40 hours.Customer Service Accountability – Contract employees providing services at NH Jacksonville and supporting facilities shall adhere to the Customer Service standards specified in NAVHOSPJAXINST 6320.7F or updated versions. A copy of the instruction will be made available upon request or at the time of commencement of services.

 

HOURS:

Services shall be provided Monday through Friday between the hours of 0700 and 1700Rotate weekend/holiday shifts with other Medical Laboratory Technologists between the hours of 0800 and 1200. Shifts will be scheduled in 8.5-9 hour work periods

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
