Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician

Position Summary: The Medical Technologist/Laboratory Technician is directly responsible to the Laboratory Manager for performing all laboratory procedures, quality control and maintenance in all sections of the clinical laboratory; solve instrument and procedure problems; make quality control decisions; recognize abnormal vs. normal results; instruct non-laboratory personnel on methods of specimen collection; obtain patient specimens by proper methods; bring problems with the above to the attention of the appropriate manager; consult with physician and/or supervisors on problems with clinical specimens or results; maintain stock of supply and reagents; assist manager and other laboratory personnel in evaluating new procedures; recommend instrumentation changes.

 

 Education, Work Experience and Licensure:

1.    Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science.

2.    ASCP Board Certified.*

3.    Two years' experience working as a Medical Technologist (MT) in high-complexity testing preferred. 

The person fulfilling this position with the above qualifications meets the CLIA requirements for Technical Supervisor, but functions as Testing Personnel. OR

1.    Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.

2.    ASCP Board Certified.*

3.    Two years' experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in high-complexity testing preferred.

The person fulfilling this position with the above qualifications meets the CLIA requirements for General Supervisor, but functions as Testing Personnel.

 

*Individuals without certification who have graduated from an accredited Medical Laboratory Program prior to 2005 will be considered for employment.  Individuals without certification who have graduated from an accredited Medical Laboratory Program in 2005 or after will be considered for employment, but must obtain certification within 12 months of hire in order to retain employment.  Consideration will be given to individuals without certification who have worked at least five years as an MLT.
