MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT (ROSLYN)

 

Position Summary: 

The Medical Office Assistant must show an uncompromising commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care by being an integral part of the clinical team. Medical Office Assistants are under the general supervision of the office manager but under the direct supervision of the licensed provider while performing clinical and other supporting patient care tasks. The Medical Office Assistant will perform their duties to the full level in accordance with NYS guidelines as outlined below. The Medical Office Assistant is assigned duties and responsibilities related to patient care in a team-based care and integrative health environment. The MOA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care and demonstrate effective communication skills. The MOA assists in the design and oversight of efficient patient flow and upholds an environment of patient safety and satisfaction. In addition, the MOA assists with front end duties when needed.

Responsibilities: 

Prepares exam rooms for use following protocol including: disinfecting, stocking all rooms, and checking vaccinations and medications availability for the day. Preps the patient chart with pre-visit planning by reviewing the next working day’s schedule and identifying gaps in care. The medical assistant is responsible for ensuring and/or obtaining the last mammogram and breast ultrasound, colonoscopy, immunizations and any clinical studies or consults that are required for that office visit Escorts patients to exam rooms. Directs patient flow for maximum efficiency. Collects and documents patient information, clinical data and other relevant information such as vital signs, height/weight, allergies, active medication list, chief complaint, pain screen and current symptoms. Obtains additional data from patient/significant other, EKG/lab/ diagnostic test results and other historical data. Reports findings to provider, recognizing abnormal findings or changes in condition. Confirms and clarifies written orders prior to implementation of delegated tasks. Collects, prepares and processes laboratory specimens for on-site and remote-site testing. Tracks and enters results in medical record. Performs quality control for waived testing and log maintenance. Performs, prepares for and assists with in-office procedures which may include but not limited to EKG, holter monitor and other ancillary testing. Schedules procedures, referrals and specialty services and testing. Obtain prior authorizations on specific medications, diagnostic testing/imaging, as ordered by provider. Works with healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operation. Problem solves obstacles to through-put process and notifies appropriate party to resolve undue backlogs and wait times. Assist with front office duties: greeting patients, answering phones, and verifying insurances. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Proficiency with care tasks such as phlebotomy, aseptic technique, etc. Excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills to enhance age-specific patient care, team collaboration and analytical problem-solving. A detail-orientation with multiple tasks and follow-through of tasks to completion. Ability to work with an Electronic Health Record, Practice Management and Scheduling systems. BCLS training and current certification required from: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or 3+years documented medical assistant experience and completion of the CH Medical assistant Assessment.

The range for this position is ($22.87) – ($29.13) per hour.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and position location. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and, it does not include the value of benefits.
