About WVLT:

WVLT is located in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to producing 37 hours of newscasts each week on the CBS affiliate, WVLT, the station takes advantage of its co-owned CW-affiliate and to expand its news audience by producing two hours of additional weekday morning news and nightly 10 p.m. newscasts. At the doorstep of the Smoky Mountains and on the banks of the Tennessee River, Knoxville is the 60th largest television market in the country. In addition to being home to the University of Tennessee’s flagship campus, Knoxville sports a walkable downtown, a sophisticated mix of culture and cuisine, a diverse and robust employment sector, advanced medical care, and amenities found in big cities yet maintain a small-town feel.

Job Summary/Description:  

The ideal candidate must be able to produce and deliver a dynamic, compelling and understandable forecast for our newscasts and digital platforms. Accuracy is a must. You will cover severe weather with urgency, while also being reassuring. Our meteorologists must have the ability to work in a multi-platform environment and will contribute daily to our digital platforms, including social media and wvlt.tv.

Responsibilities also include working directly with the news team to build out our coverage and make it meaningful and relatable to our viewers.  Our meteorologists also report in the field.  Ability to shoot and edit video, strong leadership, and teamwork are necessary. Our weather team is involved in the newsroom and the community. The person we hire must have a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the station by making personal appearances at community events.

Qualifications/Requirements:

▪️ At least 3 years of experience as a television meteorologist, certification, and a meteorology degree are preferred.
