Model-Based Systems Engineer (Data Engineering)
Job Description
We are seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer with a strong foundation in data engineering principles to join our team. The ideal candidate will apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies to analyze, trace, and align complex data-driven requirements between government and client systems. This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems modeling and data architecture, ensuring that data flows, transformations, and system behaviors are accurately represented and validated.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and maintain MBSE models that represent data pipelines, data flows, and system interactions, enabling traceability between government and client requirements to System Component Specification Models (CSMs), focusing on data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access layers.
+ Identify gaps between data-related requirements and system components, particularly in areas involving data integration, ETL processes, and schema alignment.
+ Conduct standalone analysis projects involving data lineage, metadata management, and system interoperability.
+ Reconcile discrepancies between different sets of data requirements, ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance across systems.
+ Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate technical insights related to data architecture, system interfaces, and information models.
+ Manage multiple projects involving data-centric system models, ensuring timely delivery and technical accuracy.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Data Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
+ 3+ years of experience in MBSE modeling, with exposure to data-centric system design.
+ Proficiency in Cameo Systems Modeler or similar MBSE tools.
+ Familiarity with data modeling concepts, including entity-relationship modeling, data dictionaries, and data governance.
+ Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data and system interactions clearly.
+ Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data integration and modeling challenges.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with data pipelines, ETL tools, or data orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache NiFi, Airflow).
+ Familiarity with data standards and certification processes (e.g., ISO 8000, data compliance frameworks).
+ Knowledge of avionics or mission systems with a focus on data exchange and telemetry.
+ Experience with networked systems, TSN, or distributed data architectures.
