IDEA Public Schools

 

Role Mission: The National Executive Director of IPS for IDEA Public Schools is responsible for student outcomes, staff performance, operational stability, financial stewardship, state and federal compliance, and board development. The National Executive Director sets the vision for excellence in academics, organizational culture, and long-term success across the multi-state network by adapting the IDEA Public Schools model with fidelity and sustainability. S/he reports to the CEO/Superintendent and partners closely with senior leaders and national teams across the organization to contribute to the overall success of ALL our students on their path of getting to and through college.   They also ensure effective external stakeholder engagement to build and maintain strong support with our state and local constituents.  With flexible and entrepreneurial drive, the National Executive Director drives multi-state strategy and success with IDEA’s brand of excellence and fidelity to core tenets and signature programs.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Management of Academics, Operations, Finances, and Organizational Culture

Supervise regional Executive Directors to establish and maintain a culture of high expectations and excellence in all matters at the campus and regional levels, including ensuring enrollment targets are met, student attendance goals are achieved, and effective learning environments are in all classrooms, outstanding academic achievement for all students, and year-over-year persistence of studentsEnsure regional priorities are balanced with financial sustainability by leading a strong long-term and annual financial planning process, and consistently reviewing actuals to ensure public and private funds are maximizedOversee the organization’s fulfillment of all fiduciary responsibilities to ensure compliance with all regulations and requirements Establish and encourage a strong organizational culture and inclusive work environment through consistent demonstration of integrity, high visibility, effective communication, and positive interpersonal relationships with all staff membersAdapt and innovate tailored strategies for individual schools in a startup or turnaround scenario – shifting from vicious to virtuous cycles across the academic, operational, and financial verticalsDevelop clear vision and frameworks for usage, terms, and iteration of service management as it pertains to the national team(s), leading state leaders through service selection and return on investment versus costs

Strategic Leadership and Engagement with all External Stakeholders

Effectively engage with the Boards of Directors to ensure positive two-way communication, proper governance and oversight, and fulfillment of all fiduciary responsibilities and regulatory requirements Build and maintain support for IDEA Public Schools with parents, families, and community stakeholders at both the local and statewide levels Build and maintain strong relationships with state authorizers through consistent and collaborative communication, responsiveness, and demonstration of high achievementWork with the philanthropic community to ensure a strong base of support and long-term financial sustainability, including work with regional advisory boardsServe as the voice and vision of IDEA’s brand for purposes of ensuring a positive presence and high visibility in our markets Develop capacity through relationship management and strategy to secure philanthropic opportunities for the benefit of regions and schools

Day to day tactical stewardship, execution, and problem solving for three startup regions with differing challenges and markets

Serve as the organizational leader and conduit for all IPS related day-to-day decision-makingDesign and build a team to execute on core needs daily while effectively managing resources between entitiesSolicit input from IPS regions and national partners to align on the optimal balance between people, processes, and tools to achieve short and long term objectivesDevelop tiered interventions for problem-solving at the school, regional, and multi-state levelDrive accountability across IPS with regards to leader buy-in pursuit of strategies and goals

Goals:  The Executive Director will be responsible for meeting the following ambitious goals:

All schools achieve targeted academic ratingsIPS regions meet annual operating income and days cash on hand goalsRegion meets all authorizer and state submissions for renewal, growth and complianceX% student enrollment X% student persistence

 

 

What You Bring – Competencies:

 

Required education and experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferredYears of experience:  10 years in PK-12 education with significant experience in leadership, management, and supervisory responsibilities; former experience as a campus principal preferred

 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of: 

Current educational landscape in Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio, including compliance and regulatory requirements for charter management operatorsOrganizational strategic planning and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs)Essential components of organizational health that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture

Skill in: 

Operating in a fast-paced, startup environmentBuilding and maintaining strong relationships across stakeholders, both internal and externalOrganization, prioritization, follow through, and attention to detail to ensure effective use of time and earn a reputation for delivering on promisesEffective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including ability to engage an audience and inspire confidenceCritical-thinking and problem-solving, sound judgment and decision-making, along with the ability to coach and develop these in others

Job location:  This is a full-time remote position with no requirement to live in any particular state

 

Travel expectations are up to 40% time during the busiest times of year

Compensation & Benefits:  Salary is commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications . This role is also eligible for additional performance pay based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
