Lead the design and development of new food packaging products in the food service, consumer packaged goods and food processor markets thru all phases of design and development. Including: concept definition, industrial design and 3D CAD engineering design, prototyping, performance validation, definition of manufacturing strategy, product costing and capital requirements definition, implementation planning, production product performance validation and customer acceptance of final product.
This is a high visibility role working with direct contact to all areas of the company such as Product management, Sales, Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, and Finance.
Responsibilities
Lead product design projects
Develop complete 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for products using PTC Creo (Pro-E) softwareOrganize, research and lead brainstorm events around solving unique customer problems.Prepare CAD models for rapid prototyping. stereo lithography (SLA), fuse deposition modeling (FDM), and CAM processes Interact with tooling engineering and manufacturing engineering groups to validate product manufacturability Interact with internal subject matter experts to lead product design for all internal material platforms. (Rigid sheet thermoforming, Foam thermoforming, injection molding, folded paper, molded fiber, extrusion, etc)Develop performance specification and testing methodology to define and validate product performance.
Lead development projects
Interact with sales and customer contacts to define product requirements, specifications and functional requirements based on market or customer specific needsDefine development and commercialization timelines.Work with tooling engineering and operations engineering teams to define manufacturing strategy and capital plans required for product implementation.Develop product cost estimates using internal costing tools.Assemble capital requirement outlines for development and commercialization of new products.Coordinate prototyping activities, manufacturing trials and lab testing on products and prototypes.Maintain and update project reporting documentation. Participate in regular organizational project update meetings.Travel to Pactiv locations and customer locations for on-site project related eventsTravel to Pactiv manufacturing locations to support commercialization activities.Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) preferred, in Engineering or related technical field with 1 to 5 years related experience.Demonstrated excellence and speed in CAD design and solid modeling (Creo)Excellent written and oral communications skillsDriven to achieve great results throughout the design and development processAbility to consistently earn and maintain the trust of clients and collaboratorsAble to bring vitality to group innovation processComfortable with a large corporate environment and structureAbility to work very effectively with limited direction on multiple high priority programs
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with FEA (finite element analysis) techniques and software.Experience with other CAD software packages (ie. Solidworks, Catia, Autocad)Mockup and quick prototype skillsManufacturing and design for manufacturing knowledge specifically for thermoforming and injection moldingUnderstanding of tooling and machining practices for thermoform and injection moldsInterdisciplinary team experienceProject team management experienceAbility to understand big picture and customer related business issuesAbility to visualize and effectively communicate research results
