The Huron Daily Tribune, (a Hearst Newspapers subsidiary), is seeking a proactive and digitally-savvy News Reporter to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for a creative journalist who thrives under pressure, enjoys the challenge of meeting multiple deadlines daily, and is committed to crafting engaging content for both online and print media.

Key Responsibilities:

Consistently produce a minimum of 10-15 bylines per week, ensuring at least one publication per day, supplemented with multimedia assets. Develop and write a diverse array of stories for different audience segments, including both subscribers and general readers. Conduct in-depth reporting to deliver at least one enterprise story each quarter that meets the highest journalistic standards. Participate actively in daily content planning meetings and discussions to align team goals and strategies. Source, shoot, or create multimedia content such as photos and videos, and package this content attractively for both digital and print platforms. Engage with and grow a loyal digital subscriber base by effectively using social media platforms and other digital communication tools. Utilize content management systems adeptly, with a commitment to learning and mastering these systems quickly through internal training.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Strong grasp of news writing, journalistic ethics, and the narrative storytelling techniques essential for print and digital media. Proficient in AP style, with a keen understanding of SEO and social media best practices. Ability to manage time effectively, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Basic photography skills and familiarity with digital content creation tools and platforms are preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to innovate in content presentation to enhance reader engagement and satisfaction. Successful management of digital content to optimize reach and impact across web and social media platforms. Continuous development of professional skills through participation in internal training and staying updated with industry trends.
