Nuclear Medicine Technologist – Albany, NY

$2,321 a week for 40 hours

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs tests for patientdiagnosis, progress or deterioration and medical research. The Nuclear MedicineTechnologist prepares and gives radiopharmaceuticals to patients when indicatedand uses high-level imaging equipment to record images of the radioactivematerial in the patient’s body.  TheNuclear Medicine Technologist works in collaboration with physicians to providethe images for interpretation to study and diagnose a medical condition.  The Nuclear Medicine Technologist gives dosesof radiation to patients internally to treat various medical conditions whenprescribed by a physician.  The NuclearMedicine Technologist participates in a variety of technical tasks, tests anddeterminations involving the utilization of radioactive materials andmeasurement instrumentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Receives consultation requests and checks for specialinstructions from the requesting physician. Consults with the radiologist as necessary Coordinates and participates in a variety of technicalprocedures, including in vitro and in vitro studies; operates radiationdetection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices,scintillation gamma and other apparatus for in vitro counting Calibrates and prepares radiopharmaceutical materials foradministration to patients; formulates radiopharmaceutical materials frompre-prepared kits Calibrates instruments and reviews calibration data todetect any instrument malfunction Calculates data to include results of patient studies andradioactive decay Evaluates recorded images for technical quality Processes computerized image data to include function curvesand reconstructed SPECT images Assumes care of patients of all ages during an examination,and initiates life support measures for patients if necessary Maintains the inventory of supplies in assigned areas;prepares and maintains records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving,dispensing and disposal activities Maintains records of order, including brachytherapyprocedures, receipt and disposal of all radioactive material in the department May be asked to provide some instruction and technicalguidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging techs; mayalso assist with training new employees May be responsible for monitoring the Nuclear MedicineDepartment with a portable Geiger Counter to detect any radioactive possiblecontamination May perform Nuclear Cardiology studies including imageacquisition and processing and monitoring patient vital signs May performs EKG prep, tracing and monitors for obviouschange during cardiac studies Ensures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations ofthe state department of health Ensures compliance with all Radiation Safety (ALARA) andQuality Control programs/procedures applicable to Nuclear Medicine Procedures Maintains professional acumen through attending in-serviceeducational programs Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Level I & II Graduate of an AMA approved Nuclear Medicine Technologytraining program and/or meets all state required educational &licensing/certification standards. Level II Position Requirements: Possesses at least two years of experience in the NuclearMedicine field • One –two years prior supervisory or Team Lead experience. Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice  Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable Current CPR if applicable TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)  Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site  Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements   Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required   Computer proficiency required  Must be at least 18 years of age
