As the Occupational Health Advanced Practice Nurse, you'll provide advanced practice nursing care, including examination/physical assessments, preventive counseling, treatment, and education, to current and prospective employees and dependents (>18 years old) to ensure the applicants and employees are functioning in optimal physical condition and are physically able to perform the essential functions of their job.

This position works under the direction and protocols approved by the Medical Director as well as, within the Nurse Practice Act for Autonomous APRN. This position also collaborates with several team members in providing advanced practice nursing care, including the Medical Director, Manager of Occupational Health, other team members of Occupational Health, workers’ compensation staff and vendors, and the Safety team members.

Provides evidence-based occupational health nursing services including:

Pre-placement physicalsDOT-CDL physicals (annual/biannual/pre-placement)HazMat physicals (pre-placement and annual)Fire Fighter pre-placement physicalsWorker’s Compensation nursing triage and care for the first 7 days of injuryMedical evaluation for respirator use and clearanceQuantitative fit testing (SCBA, N-95, P100, etc.)Reviews job description and associated documents (SDS) for respirator assignmentIndividual employee education of respirator use, hearing protection, and other safety needsMedical assessments such as EKG’s, PFT, hearing assessments, audiograms & FibroscanLaboratory specimen collections (blood, urine, etc.)Interpretation of resultsImmunizations, PPD’s, vision screenings (Titmus machine), and other necessary assessmentsCollects specimens for DOT and non-DOT urine drug screens and breath alcohol screeningsClinical assessments for medical surveillance and fitness for duty physicals/examinationsUnderstands basic employment and labor law as it relates to medical evaluationsClinical assessments for specialty clinic including care/case management, health coaching, medical & prescription management, and evaluation of medical interventionOrders diagnostic laboratory tests for pre-placement & annual physicals when neededMaintains requirements for autonomous APRN as per the Florida Nurse Practice ActConsults with medical director for care decisions and complex fit for duty determinationsFollows written procedures, policies, universal precautions, and infection control techniquesEnsures occupational health credentialing is maintainedMaintains proper follow-up case/care management of occupational and non-occupational careProvides health coaching/education regarding healthy lifestyle choices, preventive medical care, and basic medical benefit informationMaintains accurate & current employee medical charts in a HIPAA compliant mannerProvides various occupational health services through county locationsDemonstrates competent clinical judgement, astute listening & communication skills, proficient critical thinking aptitude, and effective independent decision abilities

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM

About You

Education, experience, certification, license:

Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing with preparation in physical assessment, and advanced nursing skill level training in area of practice.Dual licensure by the FL Board of Nursing as an RN/ARNP/APRN and 2 years’ experience in health/occupational medicine patient care, adult health, or generalist health duties including performing quality assurance and care management duties. New graduate ARNP/APRN’s will be considered based on RN experience (years and specialty).Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Preferred, but not required:

Current ACLS certification. Occupational medicine experienceDepartment of Transportation (DOT) medical provider certification. (Must be obtained within 6 months of employment)Autonomous ARNP/APRN license. (Must be obtained within 12 months of employment)Free and clear state of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with current prescriptive authority.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $90,792.00/year, based on your experience

Full Position Range (future earning potential): $67,246.40 - 114,316.80 /year, based on your experience
