The Nurse Practitioner is a nurse, who through clinical experience and study, has gained expertise in a specific specialty area of nursing. The NP demonstrates the advanced knowledge, skills and credentialing required to function in advanced practice and expanded specialty nursing.

Location: Main Campus

The NP will provide optimal patient care in accordance with his or her knowledge base, experience and competence and within the scope of practice defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA), and substantiated by written practice agreements and protocols within the specialty of practice.  He/she is accountable for the care and quality professional practice and is collaboratively responsible with physicians for providing care to patients and for sharing equal authority for that care within the respective scope of practice.

 The NP has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the day to day implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care.

The NP promoted creativity and innovation problem solving strategies to provide better ways to provide patient care.

The NP works in collaboration with the attending physician, primary nurse and other health care providers to provide family centered care through implementation and evaluation of the plan of care, psychosocial support and education of the patient/family, and case management.

Education, Licensure, and Certification Required:

Current license to practice professional nurse in the State of New YorkCurrent license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New YorkBachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program required, Master’s Degree in Nursing preferredGraduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program within specialty area
