NUTRITIONIST II

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Provides product information guidance on product choices and potential for product interactions  for individuals calling in on the product information call center lines (telephone, email and email responses) in response to questions about various products and its effects on individuals.  

 

Provides technical nutritional assistance and answers in-depth product composition and use questions from NOW employees, outside sales representatives, consumer customers, wholesale customers and prospective customers by phone, mail, and email.  Maintains a log of calls. 

 

Provides sales and technical nutritional information requested or directs inquiry to appropriate person/department.  Answers technical product information inquiries.  Increases sales by focusing on quality and service; suggests additional products when appropriate.

 

Works to resolve customer problems and complaints. Investigates, records, and reports Adverse Event Reports (AERs).

 

Determines whether the AER should potentially trigger additional action or a product improvement.  Alerts appropriate personnel when required.  This may include label copy, product formulation, safety, and suggested uses.

 

Support product sales by providing product information at trade shows, gives presentations and trainings, and helps with other promotional activities, as assigned.  Writes articles for newsletters and e-newsletters, as assigned.  Presents the technical aspect of products to sales staff at meetings, as assigned.

 

Drafts technical data sheets, FAQs, etc. regarding nutritional information of the products.

 

Complies with all company policy, safety, and GMP requirements. 

 

This position requires advanced knowledge in nutritional science and involves the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science degree, or Licensed by the state as a dietician nutritionist (LDN), and/or certification in nutrition science (CCN, RD, or CNS), or Associate degree with certification in nutrition science (CN or CNC).  At  least  five to eight years’ experience in a supervised nutrition practice field preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write emails, reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, wholesale customers, and the general public. Excellent telephone and customer service skills are required.

 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Knowledge of common measurements used for food and dietary supplement labels; including the ability to calculate doses, amount needed for a certain number of days’ servings, etc.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Good problem solving skills required.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent time management, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, listening, and organization skills required.  Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database skills required. 

 

Knowledge of health food industry and its products preferred.  Must have good customer service skills and have the ability to support customer service and sales with strong product knowledge.
