THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN SAINT MARYS COUNTY MARYLAND The MATRIX Lab httpsmatrixumdedu and A James Clark School of Engineering httpsengumdedu at the University of Maryland UMD is seeking outstanding applicants for a full time tenured faculty position to be the Director for Autonomy Test and Evaluation We seek tenured faculty or senior subject matter expert candidates who can lead interdisciplinary research and establish vibrant research and education programs at the University of Maryland The Director will conduct research teach and mentor students and work collaboratively with others to enhance the impact of the MATRIX Lab and UMD and make a regional and national impact in this area of research and education This will include strong scholarship innovative teaching of both graduate and undergraduate students participation in faculty governance and institution building service to the broader scientific community and forming partnerships within the Clark School of Engineering UMD and with industrial governmental and community partners Three specific areas that the Director will lead are Research into the methodology of test and evaluation TampE of autonomous systems The discipline of test and evaluation is well known and documented the technologies comprising autonomous systems are likewise well known though growing The interrelation of these two areas is a critical area that needs a concentrated focus and research development Execution of TampE of autonomous systems Once research leads to documented reliable and repeatable methods this hire will lead the execution of test plans for this TampE work Education supporting TampE of autonomous systems Creating the workforce of the future and trainingretraining the current workforce that will support the TampE of autonomous systems is necessary From undergraduate through graduate degree programs industry certifications and short courses tailoring of existing programs and creating new content will be the focus of this effort The A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland serves as the catalyst for high quality research innovation and learning preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand Challenges eg energy environment security and human health and improve the human condition The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineering discipline and profession to accelerating entrepreneurship and to transforming research and learning activities into new innovations that benefit millions
