Orthopedics Tech Senior

The Senior Orthopedic Technician communicates effectively with patients, families, outside contacts, medical staff, care team members, students, and supervisors while completing administrative and other responsibilities in support of the department/unit as assigned by the supervisor. Demonstrates and provides advanced expertise to the professional staff in the care/management of patients as directed by physicians and/or requested by staff. Maintains orthopedic equipment and supply inventory by ensuring that equipment is kept clean/in proper working order and that supplies are maintained at appropriate par levels. Provides direct patient care and documents care given under the direction of physicians for inpatients/outpatients.

Job Responsibilities:

 

Assembles, applies and maintains traction while applying casts and assisting physicians in the application of casts. Develops/maintains a listing of all orthopedic equipment, supplies, appliances, and devices used within the area of responsibility. Ensures cleanliness and upkeep of all equipment. Documents patient care thoroughly, accurately, and concisely. Responds to requests promptly and/or gives an estimated time that the intervention will occur. Assists supervisor in the preparation of the budget while demonstrating fiscal responsibility and knowledge regarding supplies and equipment. Provides education methods/materials to patients at an appropriate level of understanding and motivation. Communicates effectively with outside contacts and medical staff to ensure that physician orders are fulfilled. Demonstrates the ability to apply sequential compression devices, arterial-venous impulses, continuous passive motion machines, overbed frames, and other patient orthopedic equipment as directed by the physician. Showcases the ability to assist physicians in Orthopedic procedures according to facility needs (e.g. halo application and/or adjustment, casting, external fixators, and inserting skeletal pins). Demonstrates the ability to fit/adjust braces and other orthopedic supplies (e.g. knee range of motion brace, cervical collar, Lenard boot, etc.) as directed by the needs of the facility. Performs routine checks on all Orthopedic patients, as indicated, and facilitates patient discharge from the hospital by providing timely treatment. May perform additional duties as assigned.



Requirements:

Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) Heart Saver Upon Start

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Start

Licensure - None required

Experience - 4 years of experience as an Orthopedic Technician or Orthotist.

Education - High School or GED
