Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Pathology Technician to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Preparation and gross dissection of surgical specimens, entering results to LIS. Obtain, process doctors’ orders, and data entry.  Provide good customer service on the phone, patients, doctors and other medical staff.  Work well under pressure.  Perform all testing as directed by pathologist. Must be able to troubleshoot equipment and be able to prioritize specimens (STAT, Routine, Intraoperative, etc), be able to wisely use time, multitask, and be flexible in order to fill staffing needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform gross dissection of surgical specimens and document gross findings under the direction of pathologists. Assure appropriate specimen identification and accessioning. Pathology Technician will gross only the surgical specimens outlined by the laboratory director. Prepare and cut frozen section specimens (as required). In association with the pathologist(s), describe gross anatomic features: describe the overall specimen dimensions, structures, size, appearance and relationship of disease (e.g., cancer, tumor) present to tissue border (margins). Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for processing according to established procedures. Maintain clean and well supplied gross station and room. Assure proper maintenance of equipment and provision of adequate supplies. Active participation in QA/AC, as required by accrediting agency. Routinely review and, when necessary, develop policies and procedures relating to grossing. Perform gross specimen photography, select tissue for appropriate ancillary testing, and procures tissue for research protocols or immunohistochemistry controls.
