Payroll Tax Specialist

Job Description:

A Payroll Tax Specialist calculates tax deductions, reconciles tax reporting, and monitors payroll compliance. The Payroll Tax Specialist will report to the Director of HR Operations.

Specific tasks assigned to a Payroll Tax Specialist include:

Calculating employee and employer tax amountsFiling of weekly, monthly, and quarterly tax returns for multiple companies and reportingReconciling tax payments internallyMonitoring of legislative changesIncorporation of legislative changes for multiple companies into HRIS and payroll systemReporting to managementPreparing and handing out tax certificates for employeesGenerating reports for auditsHandling tax-related employee queriesMaintaining multiple time off plan rules and resolving time off plan balance discrepancies or questionsSpecial Projects as assigned

The Payroll Tax Specialist should possess the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or HRExpert knowledge of Excel (VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables) and working with large datasetsAt least two years’ experience working in payrollAttention to detailExpert knowledge of common HRIS (Workday and ADP Smart compliance)Ability to work accurately under pressure with tight deadlinesService orientation and collaborative attitude SHRM and/or CPA certification a plus
