PHARMACY INTERN

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in preparing all pharmaceutical dosage forms. The position prepares dosage forms and prescriptions to the point of "final check" approval by the pharmacist and prepares patient medication safely and effectively in addition to maintaining the drug inventory and patient records; under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. All duties are carried out only by a registered pharmacist. Functions performed as an intern include, but are not limited to: interdisciplinary patient care rounds, admission medication history, medication counseling and patient education, drug information, drug dosing, drug preparation, vaccine administration, and drug distribution. In addition, the pharmacy intern will serve as a preceptor for student pharmacists, participate in educational experiences, and engage in scholarship.

All duties are carried out only by a registered pharmacist. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Blessing Hospital. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values while supporting the strategic plan, goals and direction of the Performance Improvement / Patient Safety Plan at Blessing Hospital.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training/Experience:

REQUIRED:

Currently enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy professional curriculum Computational skills are a must Excellent typing skills a plus Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED:

Prior training and experience in pharmacy, particularly hospital pharmacy, admixture program is highly preferred but not required

License/Certifications/Special Requirements:

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician/Intern per state of practice Pharmacy-Based Immunization Certificate when applicable

Pay Status:

NON-EXEMPT HOURLY
