The University Health & Counseling (UHC) Pharmacy is an on-campus pharmacy, that is part of the medical team at the University Health & Counseling.  We serve the MCommunity of Faculty, Staff, and Students of the University of Michigan.

Job Summary

To participate in prescription dispensing processes such as patient profiling and the preparing, packaging, and labeling of various pharmaceuticals in order to fill written prescriptions, under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

Responsibilities*

95% Core Pharmacy Responsibilities:

Perform various technical aspects of ambulatory prescription dispensing processes including patient profiling, product measurement, packaging, compounding, counting, and labelingUse Pharmacy Computer system to perform various prescription dispensing processes including patient profiling, prescription profiling,  and refilling prescriptions ordersRespond to Pharmacy telephone inquiries referring them to appropriate professional staff, fielding patient requests and concerns, and exhibiting excellent communication skillsPerform calculations and/or prepare, compound, package, and label non-sterile pharmaceuticals and suppliesAssist in the acquisition and maintenance of appropriate inventories of pharmaceuticals and suppliesAssist in various third party prescriptions insurance processesResponsible for pharmacy payments by cashiering

5% Supplemental Responsibilities:

Support the pharmacy students interns with academic developmentAssist in the training and orientation to new Pharmacy staffAssist in assurance of compliance with Quality Improvement, federal and state regulations, and safety programsUnder the direction of Pharmacy Manager/ Pharmacist in Charge, or designee, assist in the development, revision and implementation of unit policies, procedures and programsParticipate in conferences, staff development programs and workshops for Pharmacy Technician discipline in order to meet licensure requirementsOther duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of MichiganKnowledge of technical aspects of ambulatory prescription processesWork Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skillsWorking under time constraints and pressuresThe ability to work in a diverse and collaborative environmentCandidates who possess one or more of the following knowledge, skill(s), or work experience(s) would be a great addition to what UHC is looking for; however, they are not required to qualify for the position: cashier experience, bi-lingual, and possess a completion of Pharmacy Technician certificate training program, previous experience in technical aspects of ambulatory prescription processes, and familiarity with pharmacy computer systems

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility

Cashiering and accounting for prescription copays and prescription totalsAccounting of product, inventory, budgetary restraints of inventory costsInventory usage and limits on stock

Working conditions

The position is for Monday through Friday standard hours.  

Physical requirements

The incumbent is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, transport heavy objects on a regular basis, do repetitive tasks; transport objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds on a regular basis.

Selected candidates whose start date is after 4/1/2024 or before 8/31/2024 will not be eligible for the university FY 24-25 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment and applicants for this position will not be sponsored for work visas.  

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.
