Pole Inspector
Description Mi-Tech offers a broad range of professional, engineering and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We have a current opening for a Utility Technician. At Mi-Tech, we support our customers and stakeholders and constantly strive to exceed expectations with all of our services, which include: Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services. • Ability to acquire field data (stick poles) to be used in the OSP Aerial design with supervision. • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. • Utility pole maintenance, remedial treatments, and application of wood-preserving chemicals • Manage utility pole assets through web-based mapping, and collection of GPS data How manager describes the job: will be going out to Utility Poles to perform the following inspections: - visual - go to the pole, look at it from top to bottom, note the damage (ground, line, conductors, attachment points, wires, missing hardware, etc). - they will work off an iphone / pad which lists in a drop down the inspections required and will go through that list and update it. - do a 360 walk around of these inspections. - sound the pole with a hammer (20-25 times) - listen for hollowness, degrading, etc. - scoop out dirt and inspect ground line. look at wood below ground line. - may drill an electric drill into base to see how easy it goes in (easier the more decayed) - may need to provide insecticides if they have that license Skills utility project, inspection inspection, field data, ipad Top Skills Details utility project,inspection inspection,field data Additional Skills & Qualifications 9+ months of utility pole inspection comfortable and has done national travel for projects vs. just one state. go from location to location every 3-4 months. are not at one sight usually for more than 3-4 months. work 5 weeks and then home for a week. ability to be away from home for months at a time with no trips home ability to work sun up to sun down, 10 hour days M-F and half day Saturday experience walking in rough terrain (hills, swamps, lots of walking, etc.) in all weather conditions references that speak to the following: - has inspected 40-60 poles a day - quality of inspections - attendance ( how often did they miss work in a year?) - communication with lead / team - traveled to multiple locations Experience Level Intermediate Level Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
