Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join an established and growing multi-national mining engineering team.  As the selected candidate, you will provide technical leadership for projects across the United States (US), Canada, Chile, and other locations. This position can be filled remotely and the candidate will collaborate with established engineering teams across the Western United States and the world. 

In this position, you will lead geotechnical engineering on surface mining projects, including tailings facilities and open pits. A key responsibility will be engaging with experts and teams across an array of disciplines, including engineering, hydrology, geochemistry, water treatment, and planning and permitting.  Diverse project opportunities include mine reclamation engineering and other environmental projects such as sediment remediation and water dam design and evaluation. Work will entail a mixture of geotechnical investigations, geotechnical evaluations, feasibility studies, design, and construction quality assurance. This is a great opportunity for a principal engineer to provide leadership to a team of geotechnical engineers supporting large and complex projects across the US and around the world. 

Role accountabilities: 

Provide leadership to our Geotechnical Engineering community and Mining Sector Team through an understanding of technical principals and current and future market conditions which support Arcadis positioning for growth  Act as or become an Engineer of Record (EoR) on appropriate projects or have served as a Deputy EoR on mine projects  Support Arcadis’ delivery of comprehensive Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management services  Use excellent communication skills to represent Arcadis to external teams and clients and to effectively engage Arcadis teams  Provide leadership to engineering project teams by defining project goals, constraints, and managing external inputs and apply sound decision making to deliver informed technical solutions   Perform geotechnical engineering reviews and provide key input on critical projects  Apply engineering principles and an understanding of mine operations to develop effective solutions to our clients’ biggest challenges 

 

Preferred technical proficiencies: 

Mine tailings and water dam siting, design and evaluations   Mine high wall investigations and slope stability analysis  Direct and support Dam Safety Reviews   Field and laboratory geotechnical testing methods, techniques, and results interpretation  Geotechnical investigation, monitoring methods and techniques  Construction monitoring, testing and documentation  Soft-ground mechanics and stabilization techniques   Strong written and verbal communication  Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint 

Qualifications & Experience: 

Required Qualifications & Experience: 

B.S. degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related field   Professional Engineer (PE) license   Minimum 15 years of experience  Limited travel is required (10%) 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Post graduate degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related field   Direct experience with geotechnical modeling software such as GeoStudio, RocScience, FLAC, PLAXIS, etc.   Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D, Arc Map, or similar geospatial software  Spanish language proficiency not a requirement but a plus to work with international teams

The salary range for this position is $124,000.00 - $187,000.00.
