We are building world-class tools to help engineers deliver better, faster, and more reliable applications. We are looking for a principal engineer to join us in crafting the future of Application Performance Management (APM). Your role will be to primarily lead front-end development but also help with the delivery of full-stack/backend features. The APM team provides our customers with end-to-end visibility in their infrastructure by advancing tools in tracing, metrics, and telemetry. About the RoleSplunk is looking for enthusiastic and creative full stack Software Engineers to join our Splunk Observability team who will work on systems that empower our customers to quickly detect and resolve their infrastructure and application issues. You will closely collaborate with designers, Frontend Architects, and Product Managers to craft and implement modern, delightful, and intuitive features that streamline the experience between multiple Splunk products. We are passionate about solving customers’ problems as well as building best-of-its-kind products and you will help us win in this fast-growing market. ResponsibilitiesOperates as a technical lead, solution architect & full stack developer of the team, leading technical roadmap and visionWork with leadership team to influence products and process strategiesUnderstand the business direction and is able to promote innovative ideas and acquire alignment with multi-functional teams; can influence PM on features, product direction and priority.Collaboratively lead design discussions under technical purview, ensuring both functional & non-functional requirements (like scale, security, operability, usability, etc) are consideredLead the development new product features, clarify and improve designs, help put together a plan for how to make it happen; participate in code reviewBuild relationships with cross-area teams to effectively understand dependencies, gain alignments and set up collaborationsGrow senior engineers and technical leaders through design & code review, tech seminars, mentoring, pair-programming, and etc.Participate in on-call rotations, post-incident reviews, and other operational duties as needed to ensure service delivery qualityTake actions to improve the engineering team’s engineering and operational practicesRequirementsProficient in building large-scale and high throughput web applications including frontend and backend components, from architecture design to implementation and testing.Track record as a senior technical lead with minimum 3 years' experience of leading teams.Deep understanding of microservices and distributed application architectureRich Experience partnering with UI/UX, Product Management, QA, Doc Writer and other multi-functional teamsExpert of JavaScript or TypeScript; Excellent knowledge of HTML/CSS; Familiar with one or more JS frameworks, such as React, Backbone or AngularExpert of Python, Java or GolangExpert of at least one RPC framework such as thrift and gRPCExpert of developing and working with thoughtfully crafted HTTP APIs, such as REST or GraphQLRich experience with 1 or more relational databases & NoSQL databasesSolid knowledge and rich experience in working with at least one cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure and GCPExpert of containerization technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related majors; 8+ years of relevant proven experienceSplunk is an Equal Opportunity Employer At Splunk, we believe creating a culture of belonging isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s also the smart thing. Base Pay Range 

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area 

Base Pay Range: $192,000.00 - 264,000.00 per year 

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts 

Base Pay Range: $172,000.00 - 236,500.00 per year 

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area. 

Base Pay Range: $156,000.00 - 214,500.00 per year 

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
