We are a global company, and our products—including mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, utility vehicles and accessories—can be found all over the world.** **TITLE** **:** Principal Controls Engineer **Duties** : Specify, design, and validate function of complex electrical control systems for heavy duty, off-highway vehicles. Act as an interface between all disciplines of design / support engineering and software engineers to define required functionality of vehicle electrical systems using Model Based Systems Engineering principles and approaches. Understand desired vehicle functionality and subsequently transform the requests into functional software specifications. Work with and direct software suppliers / engineers, communicating functional system requests via detailed documentation that follows functional operational guidelines across all products. Research, interrogate, and recommend new technology. Ensure design compliance to various regulations and standards across multiple regions and markets. Utilize Controller Area Network (CAN) tools, proprietary programming tools, bench fixtures and Hardware In Loop to assure design intent. Interrogate source code when needed. Assist in planning and direction of relevant activities through all phases of innovation and development. Direct preparation of layouts, drawings, specification, and bills of material when necessary. This position requires 15% domestic and 2% international travel. Remote work from home is acceptable within a reasonable commuting distance of the Orrville, OH worksite location. **LOCATION:** JLG Industries, Inc., 600 East Chestnut Street, Orrville, OH 44667 **REQUIREMENTS:** Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or closely related field of study and three (3) years of experience as a Controls Engineer or related role where required experience gained. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree in stated fields and three (3) years of stated experience, employer will accept a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or closely related field of study and one (1) year of experience as a Controls Engineer or related role where required experience gained. **SPECIAL SKILLS:** Also requires experience in the following: + Controller Area Networks (CAN) and related standards for vehicle communications, such as SAE J1939; + Off-highway or automotive vehicles; + Model-based engineering tools; + Vehicle electronic, hydraulic, and powertrain systems; and + Programming languages.
