PROGRAM VOLUNTEER/INTERN

 

To enhance the services, we offer to our students. Program Volunteers/Interns have regular and substantial contact with youth at SCO Family of Services. Volunteers/Interns are not used to take the place of staff or to provide coverage to meet minimum staffing standards.

Reports To:

Each Volunteer/Intern has an identified supervisor. This provides an opportunity for feedback, guidance, assistance, and support and assures accountability for the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

To enhance the services, we offer our students by carrying out the duties assigned by the Volunteer’s/Intern’s assigned supervisor. Their responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Volunteer/Intern may direct specific activities with clients using his or her specialized skills (Yoga, Zumba, photography). When this is the case the Volunteer/Intern is expected to come prepared for the activity or to make plans with the supervisor to provide materials etc. for the activity.

The Volunteer/Intern may assist clients as the participant in an activity, accepting direction from the person running the activity and their supervisor.

Accompanying youth to outside recreation activities such as concerts, games or field trips

Tutoring

Personal enrichment services for children such as arts and crafts

Qualifications - External

Qualifications:

Volunteers/Interns must meet and adhere to all requirements outlined in the Volunteer/Intern Handbook.

Relationships with Others:

Volunteer/Interns will work with staff at the facility where they are providing services, adhering to the facilities rules as well as those outlined in the Volunteer/Intern Handbook.

In addition, Volunteers/Interns need to possess the following characteristics:

Be a team player

Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.

Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.

Ability to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately.
