Project Engineer - Tanks Job ID #: 28054 Location: TX-PASADENA Functional Area: Engineering Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: 1 - 3 Years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: Bachelors Degree RC/Department: 6877 -TERM TECH SERVICES US :KMLQT Position Description To provide engineering and technical support to assigned tank projects requiring maintenance in accordance to API 653 and API 650 standards. To assess tank equipment, procedures, and operational activities for the setting of tank levels per industry best practice API 2350 and KM Standards. BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually. + Work with multiple disciplines to gather and evaluate data and operational information. + Maintain detailed records of operational activities, tank characteristics, project progression. + Appropriately communicate with supervisor on status and development of projects. + Ensure compliance with industry and KM specifications. + Understand and communicate operational procedures. + Coordinate review of operational activities. + Manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently. + Make recommendations for level settings, equipment, controls or operational changes. + Understand and navigate the MOC process. + Follow up with various implementation and approval individuals on various project steps. + Manage tank projects requiring maintenance per API 653 + Prepare project scope of work, estimates, schedules, and execution plans for tank projects + Review financial commitments to expenditures to ensure accurate spending forecasts + Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education: + Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Experince/Specific Knowledge: + 1-2 years of experience working in engineering and/or operational capacity within the oil & gas or energy industry. + Ability to work in multi-disciplinary or cross-functional groups. + Experience of providing engineering support to oil & gas operations is a plus. + Basic tank configuration knowledge. Experience working with API 650 and 653 is a plus. + Tank and terminal operational experience is a plus + Previous API 2350 and 49CFR195 knowledge is preferred, but willingness to learn is a priority Certifications/Licences/Registrations: + Possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license. + Possess or have the ability to satisfactorily obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card Competencies/Skills/Abilities: + Well-balanced interpersonal skills and demonstrable verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to apply engineering principles. + Analytical problem solver with the ability to find resolutions. + Must be accountable and take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. + Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential. + Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision. + Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies. + Must have the ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend and twist while working. Other physical activities include seeing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data, operate and computer and read. Working Conditions: + Must be willing and able to work in a corporate office environment. + Must be willing and able to work in the outside in the plant environment, in all types of climatic conditions. + Occasional travel to other field or corporate locations may be required depending on nature of ongoing work activities (approximately 10% to 15%). + Must be willing and able to carry a cell phone and respond as needed. + Subject to PHMSA compliant drug testing program. + Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities. Essentially indoors, but must be able to work outdoors as required in support of project and maintenance activities. + Availability to travel within the US as required in performing job duties. 0% - 10% travel required.
