Job Description
We are seeking a temporary Production Manager to support the creation of physical and e-books in a fast-paced environment. This role is essential in ensuring the production of high-quality books. The ideal candidate will be well-organized, metrics-driven, and have a strong bias for action, with the ability to independently execute end-to-end book creation processes. Daily interaction with content and metadata is required, along with supporting numerous production services.
ResponsibilitiesSupport and track day-to-day production workflows, ensuring processes are documented, efficient, and streamlined.Establish priorities, identify and communicate risks, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain production milestones and completion dates.Manage production schedules and files, supervise production progress, and review files for quality issues to meet deadlines throughout all phases of book production.Maintain vendor relationships, manage communication, oversee and review quality of work, and facilitate issue resolution.Ingest and archive files using internal systems.Champion new technologies and improved processes to define, leverage, and implement best content production and delivery practices.Deliver operational metrics that drive process improvement and efficiencies, focusing on creating scalable systems.Essential Skills3-5 years of copy editing experience.3-5 years of publishing experience.Program management experience.Project management skills.Experience in operations.High-level collaboration.Excellent communication and organization skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsCollege degree – Bachelor’s in a relevant industry.Experience in production management for a publishing house, including freelance, contract, or in-house work.Experience with various media types – digital and print.Book publishing experience.Preferred: 4-5+ years of experience in content production and copy editing.Work Environment
This role can be fully remote/virtual and aligns with local core hours. The Production Manager will work within a team of six, located across the country in offices in NY, Seattle, and Michigan. The role involves handling approximately 30-40 titles in various states of production, working autonomously with editors and authors. It is a highly collaborative role, interacting across time zones and working with stakeholders across teams. The work involves using project management software like Salesforce, email, and Slack. The production cycle ranges from six months to one year, with each day bringing different challenges due to the various stages of the production cycle per book.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $61.00/hr.
