Propulsion Engineer II - Launch Vehicle Engine Integration and Flight Operations

As a member of the Engines Flight Support team, you will be involved in providing customer service support for the integration, flight, and reuse of Blue Origin’s engines. Your responsibilities will include providing support with engine integration, installation verification, and certification for flight. You will be responsible for reporting engine status at Mission and Flight Readiness Reviews, as well as collaborating with a team of responsible engineers to support the development and execution of launch procedures. During flight, you will provide support in launch/mission control, providing support in analyzing flight data, and participate in engine subsystem data reviews. You will also be responsible for providing feedback on flight data results to customers, designers, and component owners for future engine upgrades. Additionally, you will play a role in assessing hardware health and evaluating engine readiness for flight to support post-flight engine refurbishment activities.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a B.S. degree in aerospace/mechanical engineering or physics2+ years of experience in propulsion development, test, or launch/flight operationsStrong understanding and ability to apply engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and structuresProficiency in data analysis and instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, and accelerometersSolid understanding of cryogenic propellants (liquid hydrogen, liquefied natural gas and liquid oxygen)Proven understanding of engine components such as pumps, valves, regulators, actuators and other high pressure and cryogenic fluid system componentsDesire to work in a collaborative, fast paced, and multifaceted environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsWillingness to travel to support flight and test activitiesAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusionMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

Advanced degree in aerospace/mechanical engineering or physicsProficiency in propulsion and launch vehicle operations, from engine integration through mission operationsExperience with data processing and writing automated data scripts in MATLAB or PythonProven track record to identify and handle risks in a sophisticated multifaceted systemKnowledge of system engineering practices
