LOCATION OF WORK: 825 L Street Example of Duties The Public Health Nurse (PHN) will provide evidence based, population based, comprehensive public health nursing services to address community needs including communicable disease control and prevention, epidemiological investigations, immunizations, obesity, reproductive health needs, family planning and Secually Transmitted Infecitons (STI) screening, treatment and education. Provide community education on health topics. Educate and provide direct health care services to vulnerable and at-risk populations in the clinic and in the community. Work in partnership with individuals, communities, groups, organizations and systems to improve health. Through the Core Functions of Public Health (Assessment, Policy Development, and Assurance), the PHN will intervene in all levels of prevention to safeguard the health and safety of hte population in the community. Perform other related duties as assigned. The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (AHD) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences Associates degree in Nursing, and experience in public or private health care. Current acceptance and enrollment in a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science (RN-to-BSN) bridge program from an accredited college or university. OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and experience in public or private health care.
