JOB TYPE

JOB SUMMARY

Applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

Patient Care: Applies accepted clinical and nursing principles and practices to patient care activities in the facility.  

Provides care and treatment to assigned patients consistent with policy.  Assists facility staff in identifying and solving problems with clinical care.   Recommends revision of patient care policies and procedures as necessary to conform to accepted principles and practices. 

Compliance: Reviews policies/procedures and implements recommendations to ensure continued compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body rules, regulations, and standards. 

Remains current on all applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and professional and accrediting body standards.   Submits required reports on a timely basis.   Develops, interprets, and implements, policies, procedures, regulations, programs and recommended practices to meet requirements of regulatory and accrediting organizations. 

Quality: Enforces clinical and nursing practice standards and licensing/accreditation rules and regulations to provide quality patient care.  

Controls patient/staff traffic to help prevent infections.  Monitors the facility's physical environment and initiates methods for maintaining safety, comfort, cleanliness, and order.   Evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care. 

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology Program (BS, Associate, or hospital-based program) required.

Experience: 1 year of experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: ARRT in Radiation Oncology required. VA state license required at free standing centers.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.

Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand

The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
