Summary:

The Rail Logistics Manager is responsible for providing daily support for rail operations in North America. Daily support includes managing movements of the Compass Minerals rail fleet, managing flows in/out of plants and in/out of storage for both loaded and empty cars, aligning rail car requirements with business units, and handling inquiries regarding rail. This individual also assists the Logistics Management team in Class 1 Rail Freight Negotiations and provides key inputs to annual budget process.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Manage the operations of Compass Mineral’s rail car fleet of ~1,500 rail cars including the seasonal flow requirements, requirements by business, and by unit Responsible for freight agreements, railcar, track, and land lease contract managementManage car movements to/from storage, diversions, maintenance, qualification, overages, claims and other atypical car flows such as bad orders, mis-routes expedited carsDevelop effective and standardized policies and procedures for car inspections, loading/unloading, dunnage and fleet planning/maintenanceUtilize Power Business Intelligence (PBI) to analyze and report on rail metrics in support of operational objectivesResolve Freight exceptions through Freight Payables teamProvide rail rate quotes for all sales requestsEnsure accurate rate entry in Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) and master rail rate sheets and clears Shipped Not Posted (SNP) reportFocal point for track and trace support for rail on inquiries from plant or customersPerforms rail claims and improves the claims recovery %Focal point for rail tools and training for required rail specific websitesProvides back up to Rail team providing support for all rail issues while others are out of officeProvides feedback and participates in carrier reviews for business unitsParticipate on various supply chain projects consistent with development and performanceRail lead for systems projectsPerform other related duties as required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires a bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience in Fleet Management / Rail Operations, similar experience considered. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Transport Management System (TMS) systems, multi-facility manufacturing company and/or Logistics experience a plus. Specific experience with Rail operations/logistics for a comparable size rail shipper is preferred.Must be PC proficient, able to navigate an ERP/TMS system efficiently, and have intermediate skills in Excel.
