Regional Bridge Operations Lead

The Bridge Regional Operations Lead will contribute to operational excellence supporting the Regional Practice Leader and working directly with department managers and engineering staff from project pursuit efforts, project development phases through final delivery. Key areas of focus beyond managing and leading key projects can include regional resource allocation & work share, technical resource planning support, project management performance oversight, quality control and financial performance of bridge and/or bridge-heavy multidisciplinary projects. The position will require technical and communication skills that can be exercised across the Region and the ability to interface with Michael Baker International staff to ensure execution of work with the highest technical and operational excellence. The Bridge Regional Operations Lead will work close with, and report to, the Regional Bridge Practice Leader to prioritize individual responsibilities within this framework and promote collaborative excellence in all of Michael Baker’s bridge services.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with the Department Manager, Regional Bridge Practice Lead, as well as structural engineering managers from Serve as Program Manager, Project Manager, Technical Manager, Technical Lead, Project Engineer, or Technical Advisor for local and/or regional projects.  Support regional business development activities including positioning, client outreach, tracking future partnering opportunities, proposal writing or review, project interviews and project scoping. Assist with recruiting and retention of key staff. Build and maintain effective and enduring relationships across Michael Baker offices, regions, and external organizations to foster cooperation and workshare within and across regions. Collaborates with department managers on technical resources for project staffing assignments. Analyze regional bridge practice backlog and maintain a forecast of staffing needs. Provide workforce analysis and resource management to identify skills, experience, competency, and training needs. Monitor QA/QC procedures and client requirements for Quality in coordination with the appropriate members of the quality assurance team. Contribute to maintenance of Quality Control Manuals (Negligible) for use by offices across the company, and help appropriate members of the quality assurance team perform periodic Discipline Quality Control Audits. Serve as a Project Manager on Bridge/Structural Engineering Project throughout New York State Lead proposal efforts by leveraging existing client relationships and teaming relationships to help grow the department. Assist Department Manager with managing staff utilization by scheduling, monitoring and revising assignments; creating and monitoring department budgets; providing leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as performance feedback, financial management, and client relations; resolving personnel issues such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required. Master's degree in Structural Engineering desired. Minimum 20+ years of bridge related design including 10+ years of project management experience is required. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, PANYNJ and/or NYSTA; experience managing moderate to complex bridge rehabilitation/ replacement projects involving multiple disciplines such as roadway, drainage, geotechnical etc.; and experience supervising the execution, financial performance, and quality assurance of multiple simultaneous projects. Must possess a valid New York Professional Engineering License Prior experience as Project Manager on New York State DOT Bridge Design Projects is required, design build projects desired. Be able to qualify to be a PM and manage projects for clients within the market/Office in which they reside. Be able to qualify as a Design Manager and/or Lead Structural Engineer on a Design Build Project. Have the skills to perform QC Oversight responsibilities.  This includes an understanding of the technical design and constructability requirements and risk management skills needed to provide those quality reviews. Solid communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally. Ablity to leverage on existing connections and client relationships to help identify and/or win new bridge work. Ability to effectively network and influence at peer levels. Knowledge and experience in Oracle-based (or similar) resource and financial management platforms. Strong background in ownership, initiative and dedication to high quality engineering services and client deliverables.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $185,000 to $230,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
