Summary:

The Cardiac Sonographer primarily performs standard and complex adult/pediatric echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and assists the physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms. In addition, the Echo Tech may perform 12-lead EKG's, holter monitor hookup, cardiac event monitor hookup, holter monitor scanning and cardiac exercise treadmill testing. All services are provided for both inpatients and outpatients.

 

Experience/Education Requirements:

High school diploma or its equivalent requiredAssociate in Science and/or graduate of an accredited program for Radiographers or Ultrasonographers preferredExperience preferred but not requiredExtensive knowledge of cardiac rhythm and cardiac arrhythmia recognitionAdvanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and echocardiology interpretive parameters

License or Certification Requirements:

Certification as Registered Diagnostic Cardiology Sonographer (RDCS) by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS); or as a Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) by Cardiovascular credentialing International (CCI); or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) by Sonography Canada is required within the one- or two-year timeframe depending upon education or training requirements for each individual.

Responsibilities:
Actively participates in advancing knowledge of specialty skills including Peds echo, ICE, AVOPS.Answers the telephone, monitors patient appointments and performs other general clerical work.Applies, scans and processes event and Holter monitors.Assists physicians in stress testing, stress echo and TEE and processes tests.Performs and processes all echocardiograms.Performs EKGs and processes tracings.Performs set-up, application and processing of Holter monitors and event recorders.Supervises the maintenance of all EKG equipment.Takes call for emergency test on evenings, weekends, and holidays.Works closely with physicians in Echo quality improvement.
