Research Scientist

The University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist to support the Department of Anesthesiology in the laboratory of Dr. Manoj Patel.  The department’s research efforts involve dozens of faculty, residents, and staff in basic science and clinical research efforts.  Our clinical investigators and Ph.D. researchers maintain active basic science laboratories conducting anesthesiology-related investigations with support from post-docs, fellows, residents, and graduate students.  Many of our faculty members are involved in clinical research, supported by a staff of clinical research coordinators and post doctorate research fellows. The Technology in Anesthesia and Critical Care Group focuses attention on biomedical devices and includes faculty from the School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as the School of Medicine. The Patel lab specializes in epilepsy and utilizes several epilepsy rodent models.  

Responsibilities: 

Research - The research component includes scholarly publication, attending academic conferences and obtaining grants. More senior scholars often take leadership roles in scholarly associations and act as editors, board members and referees for grant-giving organizations, academic presses and scholarly journals.Service- - University service involves membership in departmental, college-level and university committees, attending departmental meetings, student recruitment and processing routine paperwork such as filling out reports, answering email, participating in surveys and voting in university elections.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience. Experience with handling rodents is essential.  Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to perform in vivo mouse work including – IV and IP injections and experience with stereotaxic surgery equipment, brain injection of viruses.
