POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient’s episode.  The Registered Nurse on 2 West develops specialized skill in the area of Cardiac Care including telemetry monitoring. The Registered Nurse on 2 West  also provides care to adult adolecent and geriatric populations with medical and/or surgical conditions. The 2 West RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The 2 West Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment.  QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Minimum: Graduate of an Accredited School of Registered Professional Nursing  Preferred:  BSN
LICENSE: Minimum: Current NYS license or Limited Permit to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS: Minimum: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.   Basic Coronary Care obtained within 6 months of hire. CPI within one year of hire into this position.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Preferred:  One year of successful performance as a RN in medical/surgical environment.
SKILLS: Minimum: Interpersonal skills which ensure effective communication with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.  Analytical skills to assess, prepare, implement, and evaluate the outcomes of the plan of care.  Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the people in a professional and courteous manner.  Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.  Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills. Computer literacy Preferred:  Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record
