CHA is pleased to announce the psychiatric nurse residency program Winter/Spring cohort for new graduate nurses. This program will provide a coordinated, systematic approach to onboarding, orienting and transitioning new graduate nurses into clinical practice. This program will support the professional role transition, integration, and socialization to enable residents to transition from a beginner nurse to a competent professional nurse providing safe quality care.

As a newly graduated RN in our Nurse Residency Program, you will receive the education and support necessary to develop the judgment, skill and knowledge you will need to become the highest caliber nurse. This invaluable program will enable a clear career path into nursing.

Intensive 16-week psychiatric nurse clinical orientation as well as a 12-month residency classroom program that focuses on the tenets of the CCNE entry-to-practice standards.

Clinical orientation primarily consists of one-on-one preceptor guidance with the goal of independent performance in the clinical environment while following a curriculum designed specifically for new graduate nurses

Classroom time will provide education through a variety of educational methods (typically 4-8 hours per month) including lecture, group discussion, case studies, and more.

The Adolescent Unit is a new secured 21 bed psychiatric unit that provides care for children between the ages of 12 and 18. The unit is located in Somerville Hospital. This is an acute care unit, working on assessment, stabilization and after care treatment planning. We have a multidisciplinary team focused on teaching self-control, de-escalation and restraint reduction. This approach is used to provide patient and family centered care.

CHA provides specialist assessment and care for children and adolescents who have severe mental health needs. We provide comprehensive services for adolescents experiencing complex and persistent emotional and behavioral difficulties due to behavioral health disorders.
