7196.86 JOB SUMMARY: According to established policies and procedures receives, validates appropriateness, and processes requests for healthcare information in accordance with guidelines. Enters requests in the electronic tracking system. Utilizes the Electronic Health Record system, paper charts, microfilm/microfiche to provide copies of healthcare information. Bills for requests as appropriate. Maintains confidentiality at all times. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of State, Federal, HIPAA regulations, medical record chart components, medical terminology. 2 years release of information experience preferred. 1 year experience required. Computer skills. Good customer service and communication skills. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Course work in health information management/release of information preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: RHIA, RHIT preferred. Aptitudes: Ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Ability to focus on details and multi-task. Ability to examine records and verify patient identification. Ability to validate medical record requests and utilize computer systems to process records. Good eye and hand coordination. Ability to process records to meet turnaround timelines.
