Rolling Stock Mechanic

Summary 

 The Rolling Stock Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all facility rolling stock including but not limited to forklifts, flatbeds, and all other company vehicles. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications 

The responsibilities of the position include the following: 

Timely and regular attendance. Repair and perform preventative maintenance on all plant rolling stock. Parts and inventory control for all facility vehicles. Report directly to the Chief Engineer with any concerns regarding rolling stock or general safety to ensure all State and Federal regulations are met. Keep accurate records of daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of rolling stock. Keep a well-organized and maintained workspace. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. 

Competencies 
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following functional and interpersonal competencies: 

Functional 

The incumbent will be highly experienced in multiple mechanical skills including general knowledge of maintenance and repair of forklifts, flatbeds, and automobiles. 

Employee must hold a valid US Driver’s License. CDL preferred but not required. Employee must be willing to easily adapt to a wide variety of tasks assigned to them. 

The incumbent must be able to take quick action, exercise independent decision making and resolution of mechanical malfunctions in a rigorous seafood environment. They are willing to follow directions and carry out duties with a sense of urgency and keen attention to detail. 

The employee is required to set an example by consistently modeling high standards of honesty and integrity. The employee is widely trusted and is a direct, truthful individual who presents information in an appropriate and helpful manner, maintains a reputation for honesty, confidentiality, reliability, and fairness, is willing to admit mistakes, and doesn’t misrepresent himself or herself for personal gain. The employee performs work with energy and drive and values, but will take quick, decisive action when an opportunity presents itself. Speaks, reads, writes, and understands English for effective communication. 

The Rolling Stock Mechanic position requires driven machinery certifications such as a forklift, expeditor or flatbed truck which in turn requires a valid driver’s license. 

Interpersonal 

Education and Experience 

 High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required. 3 years of forklift mechanic experience in all aspects including electrical preferred. 

 Work Environment and Schedule 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

Physical Demands 

Applicant must be 18 years or older and be authorized to legally work in the United States. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Mental Activities 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills.  Focus and concentration on numbers accurate and detailed reports are critical in this position. Demonstrate understanding to the risks of work connected with ammonia, pay attention to details.  Employee is required to speak English and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, mentoring, problem analysis, training, and supervision skills.  The employee will occasionally be required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
