Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. seeks a Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer in our Airdrie, or Edmonton, Alberta office.

Roles and Responsibilities        Develop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation        Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs        Prepare and check design deliverables, including plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications        Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints        Manage and develop project estimates, schedules, bids, and engineering support        Compilation of design packages for construction        Perform quality reviews of project deliverables        Network with clients and maintain client relationships        Some travel will be requiredRequired Education/ExperienceA Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a university accredited by Engineers Canada; additional engineering backgrounds will be consideredEight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution linesExperience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution linesExposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniquesAbility to work in design teams and is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and take the initiative to learn the positionThe ability to lead and direct a team of Engineers, Designers, and DraftersExperience using the Microsoft Office software suiteMust have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to travel to the USA on occasion for training or client meetingsMust have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelMust be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as requiredDesired Education/ExperienceTen (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution linesPrior utility design experience or distribution line work in the Alberta market is highly preferredStrong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job trainingExposure to non-linear powerline design software such as PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, etc.The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnelManagerial and leadership experience is an asset
