Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Aviation, Transit, Commercial or Mission Critical Buildings team, of the MEP Sector, based in Chicago.

 

What a day at EXP has in store for you

Project Lead: 

Lead the discipline design team to produce construction documents that meet the project requirements within the allocated schedule and budget while minimizing inefficiencies and rework. Coordinate with other disciplines (MEP/FP, arch, struct, etc) for power, lighting, fire alarm, and grounding design. Apply risk management practices of project engineering. Front-end load projects and apply best practices to set the proper direction of the project in SDs and DDs. Provide discipline specific manpower planning for projects and assist in team resource allocation. Provide support for the Project Manager with respect to electrical and fire alarm scope. 

Senior Electrical Engineer: 

Execute complex electrical designs with conflicting design requirements or difficult coordination. Apply knowledge of building code requirements within the NEC, IBC, IECC/ASHRAE, and other codes. Understanding and correctly apply concepts of emergency and normal power systems, of lighting, photometric, and lighting controls, voltage drop, conductor sizing, harmonics, grounding and bonding etc. Interface with electrical utility providers and coordinate incoming service including service entrance ductbanks and utility transformers.  Evaluate Value Engineering (cost cutting) items with respect to our level of risk. Select and edit electrical specifications from baseline CSI Masterformat.  Perform calculations for available fault current study; implement proper AIC ratings of equipment, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, generator and ups sizing and preliminary load calculations.  Prepare one-line diagrams for power, grounding, lighting control, and fire alarm scopes of work.  Layout equipment room sizes during Schematic Design and Design Development phases. Prepare floor plans showing electrical and fire alarm device layouts, circuitry, fixtures, equipment, etc. Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals. Solve installation problems with electrical systems, travel to the site to resolve issues. Manage and deliver revisions (ASI’s, Bulletins, Addendums, etc).

Continuous Improvement and Mentorship

Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) reviews on specifications, reports, code application, submittal review, equipment selection, deliverables, and drawings. Develop Internal lessons learned, best practices and standards.  Provide meaningful feedback to supervisor on areas of improvement or concern of the team.  Provide mentoring and guidance to peers and subordinates. 

 What your experience looks like

8+ years' experience in electrical MEP design (Aviation, Transit, Federal or Mission Critical Facilities preferred). Thorough knowledge of NEC and building codes. AutoCAD and REVIT MEP proficient (REVIT Experience is required). BS Architectural Engineering, or BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree. Registered P.E. is required  Experience in using SKM Power Tools or similar software for engineering calculations preferred (Fault Current Studies, Coordination Studies, Arc Fault Studies, photometric analysis). Experience using construction cost estimating software (Cost-works) preferred.
