Position Overview:
NYSTART (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources and Treatment) works
collaboratively with the system of support to improve the lives of individuals with
intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-existing behavioral health needs/mental health
concerns. Under the supervision of the START Associate Director, the START Senior Instructor
is responsible for training coordinators to follow the START model. This includes field based
demonstration of all START based documentation, systems work, outreach, crisis planning and
other case specific trainings. The focus of the START Instructor will be to orientate Coordinators
to field based START processes as well as the orientation to START documentation.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
• Provide Field based instruction through modeling for START Coordinators to conduct
systems work, intake assessments, trainings and outreach.
• Provide step by step instruction to START Coordinators to ensure understanding of the
START model in regard to documentation.
• Work in partnership with the Associate Director, Clinical Director & Team Leaders to
identify staff training needs.
• Begin START cases as directed to ensure cases are followed up on within 2 weeks of
referral.
• Conduct case consultation for systems not engaging in the full START model.
• Evaluate Coordinator ability in the field, providing constructive feedback and support.
• Report each coordinators areas of growth and concern to the Associate Director and
corresponding supervisor.
• Maintain linkages and relationships with community partners
• Provide support to both new and veteran coordinators that encounter challenging systems.
• Share on-call responsibilities to ensure 24/7 response to crisis situations within one hour
of call telephonically and within 24 hours of call face-to-face.
• Participate in recurring meetings with START leadership, clinical team, and resource
center

• Assist in the development of cross-systems crisis plans, intake/assessments, intervention
and outcomes and any other applicable documentations of services provided.
• Fill in on START cases as needed while orientating new Coordinators to their caseloads.
• Obtain/maintain certification in PPD, CPR, First Aid, SCIP (Level 2), as needed per Agency
policy
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested and/or necessary, including supporting alternate
locations when assigned
• Adhere to flexible schedule that reflects the needs of the program(s)
• Attend in-service training programs, clinical and academic conferences and workshops and other
educational presentations to maintain current knowledge of relevant clinical issues and techniques
• Ensure that electronic individuals records and daily data input are maintained
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-services in accordance with agency policy.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or human service field (licensure
preferred)
• 3 years’ experience providing services to people who have IDD and mental health/or
challenging behavior needs
• Must be a certified START coordinator

 

USD $ 29.81/Hr - $30.77/Hr
