Job Description:

Roles & Responsibilities:
+ Administers all legal claim procedures, such as Interrogatories, follow ups, Motions, Answers, affidavits, etc., based on knowledge of departmental procedures and priorities.
+ Mastery of electronic keyboards or other equipment such as computers, typewriters and other business machines.
+ Handle telephone calls, obtaining information and scheduling appointments dealing with outside offices.
+ Process legal mail.
+ Accurately communicate with Management and assigned professionals to support discovery and prepare cases for trial.
+ Make sound judgments based on knowledge of Departmental/Section procedures.
+ Assures routine forms are prepared to Department of Transportation, ISO Claim Search and other regulatory agencies.
+ Maintain accurate records, logs and Departmental/Section files as required, based on general instructions.
+ Run daily reports and basic computer reports using the Risk Management Claim database system; properly code transactions based on location, cause, coverage and severity of incident.
+ Take reasonable precautions to ensure and eliminate processing duplicate payments and reserve transactions.
Qualifications:
+ Must be a graduate of an approved high school, or the equivalent.
+ Must have at least 4 years of professional clerical experience in a Risk Management environment. Similar experience may be substituted.
+ Must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT clerical and typing exams
+ Must have familiarization with the computer keyboard and IS functions, and the ability to type 55 corrected words per minute.
+ Proficient in spelling, grammar and language usage.
+ Must have the ability to compose letters of a routine nature.
+ Must be able to understand, transmit and apply oral and written instructions of a complex nature with accuracy, discretion and efficiency.
+ Must have the ability to meet or talk to the general public and foster good will by tactful handling and resolution of problems related to the position.
+ Must have above average poise and tact and the ability to handle routine public, professional and inter-departmental contact.
+ Must be able to utilize the phone proficiently and record information over the phone; including calls from claimants, service providers and others.
+ Must be able to apply specific knowledge of the organization and functions of the Risk Management Department in a professional manner.
+ Must be able to work independently and exercise necessary judgment within guidelines.
+ Must be familiar with NJ TRANSIT Risk Management procedures and functions with internal and external professionals.
+ Must be able to work effectively with other departments.
+ Must have a general knowledge of Departmental record keeping procedures, satisfactory math skills and organizational skills and possess the knowledge of the organization and functions of the Risk Management/ Claims Department.
