Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team. As Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the department's direction, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining trusted client relationships-all within a collaborative environment.\n

Responsibilities:\n\nLead structural engineering projects from concept to completion, including full design of systems using steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.\nPrepare and oversee calculations, models, specifications, and construction documents throughout all phases of design and construction.\nConduct field visits and site inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure design integrity, code compliance, and safety standards.\nCollaborate with internal disciplines-including architectural and civil, to develop coordinated, buildable solutions.\nParticipate in business development efforts, including proposal writing, fee estimates, and client presentations.\nServe as the main point of contact for structural clients, cultivating long-term relationships and repeat business.\nManage departmental resources, project schedules, and budgets to ensure timely and quality delivery.\nRecruit, mentor, and develop structural engineering staff to support firm growth and uphold design excellence.\n\n

Qualifications:\n\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) from an ABET-accredited program.\n15-25 years of relevant structural engineering experience with a focus on building projects.\nPE licensure in North Carolina (or ability to obtain via reciprocity); SE licensure is a strong plus.\nProficient in structural analysis\/design software (e.g., RISA3D, RAM, SAP2000, ETABS).\nSkilled in BIM and drafting tools (AutoCAD, Revit); able to lead and review drawing production. Design portfolio will be required to be provided as part of the interview process.\nStrong knowledge of building codes and structural systems, including design for all major load types and conditions.\nKnowledge or exposure to close coordination with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing engineers for building systems.\nDemonstrated experience with permitting and coordination with local jurisdictions.\nStrong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.\nBusiness development experience within a consulting environment.\nFamiliarity with steel fabrication platforms (e.g., SDS2, Tekla) is a plus.\nComfortable managing multiple projects and mentoring a multidisciplinary team.\nAble to travel to project sites and navigate construction environments when needed.\n\n
