Senior Trades Utility Worker

The University of Virginia's Health System Physical Plant is seeking a Senior Trades Utility Worker to work in our University Hospital. Senior Trades Utility Workers provide support to zone mechanics and other employees in support of zone maintenance. The incumbent supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. The Senior Trades Utility Worker performs skilled repair and maintenance tasks in one or more specialized trades/utilities areas and performs semi-skilled, general repair and maintenance tasks in other trades/utilities areas. This work may be performed more independently based on the individual’s experience and maintenance/repair service needs.  The incumbent will have working knowledge in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, and hand and power tools. The ability to understand and read blueprints and drawings is also essential.

Duties Include:

Assist skilled journey-level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup. Incumbent can address specialized areas within a specific trade, such as quality and temperature control.

Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects.

Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.

Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders.

Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.

Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with the supervisor.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:


Experience: A minimum of four [4] years of work experience in at least one building trade. Experience working in a hospital setting is preferred.

Licensure: Valid Driver's License.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, including a health screen prior to their start date.

Compensation:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $19.50 - $23.00 ($40,560 - $47,840 per year). Employees new to the University are eligible for a $1,500 sign on bonus. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).  The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
