SNAP-Ed Regional Environmental Nutritionist - Bath, NY
As a member of the Southern Finger Lakes SNAP-Ed Program leadership team, the Environmental Nutritionist will implement the school wellness Policy, Systems and Environment (PSE) plan related school wellness strategies and the Fruit and Vegetable Prescription (FVRx) Program across the Southern Finger Lakes region in collaboration with the Southern Finger Lakes SNAP-Ed (SFL SNAP-Ed) Project Director, Sr. Nutritionist, Assessment and Evaluation Nutritionist, Nutritionists, and PSE staff. This position serves as a subject matter expert and works collaboratively with SFL SNAP-Ed staff for program assessment and development. This position supports Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE) reporting system for all SFL SNAP-Ed PSE work that meets the needs and requirements of funder and provides feedback for program improvement and development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Education and/or Public Health or related discipline.
•    Experience relevant to the position.
•    Experience collaborating with schools, elementary classroom teachers and support staff, Physical Education (PE) teachers and other school staff.
•    Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
•    Ability to meet frequent travel requirements associated with this position. 
•    Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
•    Ability and willingness to collaborate with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
•    Experience with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to host meetings or classes via Zoom.
•    Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. 
•    Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage confidential, sensitive information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Registered Dietician.
•    3 to 4 years of related work experience relevant to the role of the position.
•    Understanding of Policy, Systems and Environmental strategies (PSE’s) and potential impact on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) audiences.
•    Understanding of how Policy, Systems and Environmental (PSE’s) are evaluated.
•    Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.
•    Familiarity with a variety of program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups in youth and adult audiences and ability to integrate youth and adult development principles into educational activities.
•    Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in Spanish

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Assessment – 15%
•    Apply subject matter knowledge to identify gaps and trends in the community.
•    Develop program needs assessment.
•    Analyze program needs.
•    Make recommendations for programmatic offerings, enhancements, or improvement.
•    Ensure program assessment is within scope of the statewide plan of work.

Program Development – 20%
•    Apply subject matter knowledge to develop educational strategies.
•    Create innovative educational programs.
•    Research, identify and select existing resources for the program.
•    Create program materials to address clients’ needs.
•    Structure programs to meet the need of diverse program participants.

Program Delivery – 30%
•    Implement the existing school wellness Policy, System & Environmental (PSE) educational program and existing FVRx Policy, System, and Environmental (PSE) program. 
•    Serve as subject matter expert in school wellness, FVRx, and the Policy, System & Environmental (PSE) discipline.
•    Support the development and implementation of the Community Obesity Prevention Training (COPT) Policy, System, and Environmental (PSE) initiative.
•    Provide complex non-standard responses, support, resources and information to schools, agencies and others designed to improve access and remove barriers to securing healthy foods and physical activity opportunities.
•    Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
•    Utilize a variety of proven educational and Policy, System & Environmental (PSE) change methodologies such as teacher trainings, secondary facilitation of school wellness meetings and assisting school wellness groups in planning for the sustainability of implemented strategies.
•    Apply subject matter knowledge in collaboration with SFL SNAP-Ed Nutritionists to create lesson plans and adapt approved curricula and materials to deliver SFL SNAP-Ed nutrition education programming.
•    Foster acceptance of the SFL SNAP-Ed Program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
•    Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of the program delivery.
•    Represent the Association to the public, program participants, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University, and others in a professional manner at all times.
•    Work with teachers and other school staff, which includes elementary schools within the Southern Finger Lakes Region, in the implementation of Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) and other evidenced based school wellness programs and provide them with curriculum, professional advice and assistance in procuring teaching materials and equipment and provide basis for evaluating their progress.
•    Utilizing a team of Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) trainers (SFL SNAP-Ed staff and school personnel), train identified new schools in the Southern Finger Lakes region to meet annual objectives for CATCH implementation.
•    Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to the newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, and website postings.
•    Assist schools in implementing other strategies that improve student access to healthy foods, nutrition education and physical activity such as Smarter Lunchroom, Brain Breaks, and Active Recess. 

Program Evaluation – 10%
•    In consultation with SFL SNAP-Ed Leadership, design or create a PSE program reporting system for all PSE strategies that meets reporting requirements and demonstrates impact of PSE’s. 
•    Implement SFL SNAP-Ed related program evaluation.
•    Assist with the analyzation of collected SFL SNAP-Ed program evaluation data.
•    Make recommendations for improvement.


Administrative Direction – 10%
•    Plan the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
•    May assist in developing and/or enhancing/expanding relationships with appropriate agencies, organizations, industries, and community leaders for program.
•    May plan effective strategic external and internal program communication/marketing efforts.
•    May provide input to the planning of a unit budget based on program feasibility needs.
•    May provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for mass media efforts related to program.

Administrative Management – 5%
•    Monitor program to ensure that educational content conforms to research base, policies and objectives of the association and is research knowledge based.
•    May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program/function, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
•    May give guidance to volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work.
•    Monitoring income/expense to ensure the spending is within budget constraint.

Administrative Coordination/Operation – 5%
•    Coordinate all quantitative and qualitative reporting for the school wellness of all Policy, Systems & Environmental (PSE) strategies for the SFL SNAP-Ed program.
•    Prepare monthly and quarterly reports demonstrating program progress, accomplishments, and the impact on the community.
•    Coordinate the implementation of school wellness PSE strategies with SFL SNAP-Ed Nutritionists working in local communities.
•    Coordinate the implementation of FVRx PSE strategies with SFL SNAP-Ed Nutritionists working in local communities.
•    Routinely communicate with Sr. Nutritionist and Project Director
•    Effectively maintain professional relationships with schools, other agencies, and organizations to promote effective communication and facilitate SFL SNAP-Ed programming efforts.
•    Performs general coordination activities including but not limited to attending staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, collaborating with other staff, and general marketing of extension programs.
•    Maintain extreme confidentiality of information, participant information and data collected, accessed and/or maintained.
•    Provide input for the development of written marketing materials to highlight program(s).
•    Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. 
•    Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
•    Transport self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
•    In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
•    Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. 
•    Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
•    Perform assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc. 
•    Collaborate in activities that are in broad support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, collaborating with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. 
•    Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
