**96913BR** **Job Title:** Sr Research Automation Engineer - Decatur, IL **Department/Function:** Research & Development **Job Description:** **Sr Research Automation Engineer - Decatur, IL** The Sr Research Automation Engineer is responsible for identifying, vetting, and supporting installation of applicable new and existing automation and control schemes in a food or chemical plant or laboratory location. Additional responsibilities include liaising between operations, process development and process chemistry groups to verify adequate installation, application, performance, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both software and hardware automation systems. This position will utilize plant and process knowledge to identify and model savings potential associated with new applications and develop tech transfer packages associated with the initial integration new process control schemes. **Responsibilities:** + Support and Maintenance: + Completes Service Requests for automation changes in D/3 and DeltaV. + Supports onsite electrical contractors – coordinating check-out and commissioning for IO changes and addition. + Design and Implementation: + Specifies, obtain quotations and orders all IO, IO panel design, field wiring, and IO needs. + Specifies, obtain quotations and orders all process technology hardware. + Reviews P&IDs with project engineers to develop User Requirements or Process Control Narratives based on design basis. Coordinates specifications, procurement and implementation of automation based on needs. + Delivers industry best solutions for each opportunity/problem to the appropriate level of detail and in a timely manner using the standardized work process. + Actively drives technology leadership by seeking out and using the best knowledge while listening to and implementing constructive challenges in a collaborative environment. + Ensures each project has clear technical objectives, analyzes cost benefits, develops a budget, and builds a resource plan against its business case. + Continuously looks to implement improvements for safety, efficiency and sustainability. + Identifies opportunities for improvement to better align R&D with corporate standards, identifies gaps, establishes sustainability regarding automation to nurture further growth. + Supports the implementation and maintenance of automation systems, adhering to all current preferred vendors, standards and best practices where applicable. + Functions as Project Manager, Sponsor, or Team member, as needed for Automation projects. + Reviews project requests, analysis, and results with group directors and "Center of Excellence" as necessary to ensure priorities align with group and company vision. **Education:** + A bachelor’s degree in science or engineering in the fields of chemical, electrical, controls or equivalent experience is required. **Experience:** + Five to ten years of experience in a food or chemical production facility is preferred. + The individual must have extensive experience with control software **Skills:** + Good written and oral communications skills to communicate with managers, engineering, operations, and research staff via reports and presentations. + Strong organizational skills to manage large amounts of data and multiple projects. + Able to function within matrix project management environment. + Strong leadership skills to encourage open collaboration, provide technical expertise, and positively contribute to research teams. **Requirements:** + Must be willing to travel + Must be comfortable managing/participating in various projects concurrently. + Candidate will need to work within established company and laboratory safety guidelines. + Willingness to spend time in production areas, tolerate extreme temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces. **Core Competencies:** + Communication, curiosity, integrity, mechanical aptitude, problem solving, ability to work independently, teamwork, persistent, detail oriented, organized, and safety commitment.
