The Role

The Proofpoint Tax Department is responsible for the assessment and review of the Company’s transactions as it relates to all forms of tax compliance as well as accounting for income taxes under US GAAP. The ideal candidate typically possesses a combination of strong technical tax knowledge, leadership skills, significant experience in tax provisions, tax compliance, and successfully managed complex tax projects.

Your day-to-day

Manage the preparation and completion of accurate and timely quarterly and year-end income tax provisions in accordance with US GAAP.Ensure compliance with accounting principles and relevant tax regulations.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary financial data for tax provision calculations.Provide guidance on tax provision matters and assist in decision-making processes.Support our external financial audit/income tax provision as necessary.Assist in managing US sales and use tax compliance in collaboration with internal tax team and external tax advisors.Support oversight of international subsidiaries from both US and local tax perspectives, including managing local tax returns and local financial statement audits.Aid in overseeing the annual transfer pricing process, maintaining intercompany agreements, and providing assistance with foreign cash management.Provide assistance with tax-related tasks for mergers and acquisitions, including tax due diligence and post-acquisition tax integrations/structuring.Support various tax-related filings, including business property tax, gross receipts filings, annual reports, and VAT filings.Gain comprehensive understanding of Proofpoint products and monitor transactions to identify potential areas of tax risk or opportunity.Prepare journal entries and related monthly/quarterly account reconciliations, analyzing fluctuations for assigned accounts to identify unusual trends or activity.Support special projects and initiatives (e.g. R&D Studies, refund opportunities, tax audits, census, and others) as assigned​

What you bring to the team

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.CPA and/or Masters in Tax is preferred.10 + years of experience in income tax provision, income tax compliance, and international taxation in either public accounting and/or public/private company tax experience.Experience in mergers and acquisitions tax due diligence and post-acquisition integration/structuring is a plus.In-depth knowledge of ASC 740 and other relevant accounting standards.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Meticulous, detail-oriented, and highly organized.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Strong managerial skills with the ability to effectively manage both internal and external resources.Tech industry/software corporate tax experience preferred.Simultaneously manage multiple projects.

Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 116,690.00 - 183,370.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 96,880.00 - 152,240.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 87,220.00 - 137,060.00 USD
