Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage key operational accounting functions for a government contractor, including accounts payable, payroll, billing, and government invoicing. Responsibilities: • Oversee accounting operations to ensure accurate and efficient financial processes related to government billing. • Set up, maintain, and manage contracts in the financial system following contractual and agency guidelines. • Process accounts payable invoices and prepare detailed project billing statements. • Generate and manage invoices for federal government agencies, ensuring compliance with regulations. • Maintain an organized and up-to-date repository of client billing codes. • Reconcile accounts and contribute to the preparation of monthly financial reports. • Handle employee payroll processing, ensuring adherence to federal and local laws. • Collaborate with the team to ensure compliance with accounting standards and best practices. • Provide support during audits by preparing and organizing necessary documentation. • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes for improved efficiency. Requirements • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in government contract environments. • Proficiency in government contract accounting, including Time & Materials (T& M), Fixed Pricing, and Cost Plus pricing models. • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. • Familiarity with full-cycle payroll processing and compliance with federal regulations. • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
