The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.

Within the Section of Hematology/Oncology, the Franses Laboratory is dedicated to understanding how the tumor microenvironment (non-cancer cells present within tumors) impact tumor behavior, and how we can exploit this knowledge for improved therapies or biomarkers. The Laboratory uses cell and animal model systems, molecular biology tools (in cultured cells and animal models), and state-of-the-art translational tools such as spatial omics to probe tumor biology.

Job Summary
 

The Franses Laboratory is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on multiple projects pertaining to the tumor microenvironment and metastatic drivers in liver cancer. The Staff Scientist is expected to plan, execute, and facilitate advanced technical/scientific research projects. This individual will collaborate with other researchers as appropriate, participate in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-author scientific research manuscripts. The Staff Scientist may supervise other research staff, present work at scientific meetings, and provide peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts. The individual in this role will be involved in all aspects of the design, development, implementation, and analysis of research projects focused on liver cancer metastasis and microenvironment.

Responsibilities

Designs, develops and tests experimental protocols for research (including empirical protocols, computational, statistical methods, etc.).

Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.

Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors scientific research manuscripts.

May supervise other research staff and students.

Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.

Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.
