Staff Systems Engineer 2
**Description** The Applied Research Test Technology Division in Ridgecrest, CA is looking for candidates for the position of HW/SW Systems Engineer. In this role, you will assist the Engineering and Scientific staff in performing integration of COTS software with unique test articles and research platforms. You will gain a deep understanding of defense research related to ordinance and energetics. In addition to your technical role, you will assist with program management, planning and budgeting, and status reporting. **Position Responsibilities:** The ability to interface with customers/executives and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, and subsequently manage team members towards meeting project objectives The experience and technical expertise to build bench test infrastructure from scratch or update existing systems in response to customer or program needs Develop and document the test system designs, functions, and capabilities Lead system test planning and execution, draft validation reports, and manage system requirements Provide guidance to an integrated team working on designs and builds Train users in implementation or operation of systems **Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):** + Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent work or military experience + Experience with automation and control systems and software such as National Instruments, Allen Bradley + Be able to read schematic diagrams and support assembly of test setups and field testing. + Supervise layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of experimental or test hardware. + Able to set up and operate test equipment, test apparatus, and diagnostic sensors after training. + Familiar and competent with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint. + Work well in a team environment comprised of other technicians, engineers, scientists and customers. + Contribute to test planning – assist with developing the test process and flow, writing procedures, and building check lists, tables and forms to facilitate a smooth test flow. + Define system specifications, input/output processes and hardware or software compatibility trades. + Full life-cycle development of data collection, analytics, processing, and visualization system to process and integrate real time data networked across a large outdoor testing facility from a heterogeneous sensor mix for situational awareness during testing. + Leadership, project, and team-building skills, including the ability to drive initiatives in multiple departments. **Typical Education/Experience:** Typically, 5 or more years’ related work experience or relevant military experience. Advanced degree (e.g., Bachelor, Master, etc.) preferred, but not required. **Relocation:** This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. **Work Shift:** This position is salaried at 40 hours per week and intended to create a production site for HW and SW systems that will be prototype tested before installation on a DoD Government facility.
