The Staff Weights and Mass Properties Engineer performs mass properties functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and mass properties requirements allocation studies to translate customer, product or derived mass properties requirements into hardware and software specification requirements. Analyzes, researches and tests system hardware and conditions for optimal mass properties system solutions compared to requirements. Tools utilized may include solid modeling tools, database tools and standard office applications.

This individual will provide technical expertise on Mass Properties, advising program and design teams and supporting the achievement of program requirements. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Providing Technical Leadership and Policies for the Program and the Mass Properties TeamActing as interface with program customer regarding Mass PropertiesDeveloping and implementing a Mass Properties Management and Control ProgramAccurate estimating and optimizing of mass properties to achieve vehicle performance and fulfill weight based program metricsEstablishing specification and design target weightsMaintaining accounting and reporting systems to inform the customer and management of current and projected mass properties trendsParticipating as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviewsProviding mass properties data for cost analyses and vehicle design and analysisEvaluating subcontractor proposals, interacting with and overseeing subcontractor mass properties management and controlReviewing and approving drawings to achieve mass properties management and control.Measuring vehicle and/or component mass propertiesProviding operational flight manual mass properties data

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum Education / Experience: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhDMinimum of five years of relevant experience as a Weights and Mass Properties engineerAble to obtain DOD Secret Clearance with background investigationCandidate must be familiar with Society of Allied Weight Engineers RP 7 & 8Proficiency with MS Office software (Excel, Work, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

Siemens NX proficientAircraft Weight and Balance CertificationAutomated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) experienceThe ideal candidate should have broad, general knowledge of air vehicle design and manufacturing techniques and demonstrate strong people, organizational, presentation, and communication skills. Prefer a self-starter, willing to take initiative, be proactive, and require minimal direction

Salary Range: $165,000.00 - $247,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
