Position Availability: Position Title: Student Assistant - Food Pantry Assistant Requisition Number: 0406073231 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Stdnt Srvcs/Enrollment Ops Responsibilities: Student Support and Advocacy is seeking two Food Pantry Assistants, who will support projects and initiatives related to the functioning of food security initiatives for students at The New School. The position is open to New School students with a Federal Work Study (FWS) award as part of their financial aid package for the academic year 2023-2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES Stock food deliveries, label food, inventory pantry items, and oversee in person distribution. Delivery times vary and commitment is based upon your availability. Administer food pantry sign in and intake form process to ensure accurate data reporting of student usage of the food pantry services. Participate in monthly Food Pantry operations team meetings, pending availability. Support food pantry outreach which may include creation of digital marketing, flier distribution, tabling, and creation of social media messaging, including de-stigmatization of food insecurity. Assist with the creation of a community support strategy including food drives and creative ways to engage campus support of the Pantry. Liaise with students, staff and faculty as a student ambassador of the Food Pantry. Collaborate with the Food Pantry team members to research and create new food security education content to accompany the pantry’s use. This may include workshops, website content, food demos, recipes, handouts and more. Assist with special projects and events related to the mission of food and basic needs security, including surveys, focus groups, etc. Assist with maintenance and development of lists of resources for low-income and basic needs insecure students.

WORK MODE
On-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.

Hourly Rate: $15 Minimum Qualifications: Food Pantry Assistants must have availability during the pantry’s main operation hours, as well as 30 minutes before and after. Additional operational hours may be possible. Fall 2023 operational hours will be determined based upon the schedule and availability of the Food Pantry Assistants. Spring 2024 operational hours to be determined at a later date.

A strong work ethic, the ability to take initiative, work independently, communicate clearly and meet deadlines. Must be organized and able to interact with students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google sheets, and Google docs. Must be able to list boxes weighing up to 35 lbs. Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy
